In December 2017, the iconic Nelson Mandela Bridge in Johannesburg witnessed the most unusual kind of traffic: 365 golden Johnnie Walker Striding Men statues, standing in unity in support of an abuse-free society.
Johnnie Walker in partnership with Million Men March, the Tswharanang Legal Advocacy Centre and Lifeline held an event, pledging to help eradicate the causes and effects of the abuse of women and children. Urging the community to support this initiative for the full 365 days of the year.
DSV transported the 365 packaged and crated “Striding men” from two of our client’s warehouses to the Nelson Mandela Bridge, just in time for the much-anticipated road and bridge closure the night before the event.
Thirteen super link trucks arrived in sequence on the hour to offload the “packaged” “Striding men” for placement. The last DSV truck departed in the early hours of Saturday morning, and the iconic bridge had been transformed into a striking sight – and it has become one of the most spoken about marketing campaigns of 2017.
The DSV brand was showcased over the weekend until the end of the promotion when the “Striding men” were transported back to the warehouses.
The DSV and client teams were commended for an outstanding delivery by the brand owners and the next project is already being planned. DSV will continue to showcase a “world class service” and align to a campaign that has caught the eye.
A huge thank you goes to the DSV team for making this happen, which involved working with the road traffic department, security and the local municipality.
The attention to detail and meticulous project plan ensured an amazing success. Thanks to the team; Brenda Pritchard (Director Account Solutions), Andre Fourie (Business Development – DSV Road) and Kabir Yacoob (Distribution Sales).
