DSV Mounties in Johannesburg recently installed a new state of the art card sorter known technically as the PB Vantage Sorting Machine – but we call it The Monster!

As the first high-speed sorter to feature in-line metering and the highest industry read rates, Vantage is a multi-application system and industry leader in operational throughput.

Andrew Holiday, Operations Director said: “We replaced the previous 112 pocket, Linear PB Olympus sorter with the new and improved PB Vantage Sorter with FlexLine Stackers and 480 pockets.

The previous sorter had undergone a full refurb and was installed at a different site as part of our fully automated Disaster Recovery (DR) capability. To the best of our knowledge this is a first for any logistics provider in Africa!”

Andre Wagner, MD of DSV Mounties, said it was necessary to embrace the latest technology to meet increasing customer demands and pressure to reduce turnaround times. “The multi-tier sorting machine requires fewer sorts resulting in reduced sorting time which increases the number of cards that make the daily cut offs for next day delivery – this results in improved customer experience. We can also link several cards for an individual or company into a single delivery intervention which results in savings for our customers.”

The new Vantage Sort machine provided us with the ability to deploy the ‘old’ sorter as our DR (Disaster Recovery) machine at our Mounties Laser Park facility.

From an audit perspective all cards are located 100% of the time. We also have the ability to do a complete Storage Vault audit, where the machine will sort cards marked for destruction into a separate pocket, and has the ability to sort cards from oldest to newest.
